Bess Caplan
Baltimore
Ecosystem Study Program Leader of Ecology Education
Bess Caplan joined the BES staff as Program Leader of Ecology Education in July 2008 and happily became a part of the Parks & People community. Her mission is to enrich opportunities for Baltimore youth to actively learn about urban ecology inside and outside the classroom, and in community settings. Bess received her B.S. in Environmental Science and Policy from the University of Maryland, College Park and an M.S. in Environmental Science from Towson University. During her college summers, Bess worked for the Audubon Naturalist Society (Chevy Chase, Maryland) leading summer nature programs for youth and developing nature camp curriculum. Prior to joining BES and Parks & People, she worked as an environmental educator at an outdoor science school in southern California and most recently as an environmental consultant designing ecological restorations and performing a variety of environmental assessments. Bess is thrilled to be part of the education community once again. On a personal note, Bess spends her free time in her backyard garden, rock climbing, on the trails . . . just enjoying life.
