In collaboration with our partners, we had the honor of breaking ground on Cecil Elementary’s outdoor classroom!

Led by Principal Aleesha Manning, Cecil Elementary School is a model public school in the Midway neighborhood, serving over 300 students each year. This outdoor classroom is the first phase in the community-driven and designed transformative overhaul of this space.

Currently, there is no quality green space within a walkable distance for students and community members alike. This project is set to create a vibrant, active and safe space for all providing much needed green and rec space in Midway.

Cecil Elementary School students will have an enhanced schoolyard with opportunities for exercise and fitness, play, outdoor learning, and a connection to nature. Future planned development includes a walking track, new playgrounds, lighting, landscaping, seating, bio retention, and a multi-use, athletic field.

Thank you to our crucial partners and funders Cecil Elementary School, Baltimore #7, Baltimore City Public Schools, Central Baltimore Partnership, France-Merrick Foundation, Baltimore City Department of Housing & Community Development, Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, Baltimore City Mayor’s Office, Baltimore City Rec & Parks, Greater Greenmount Coordinating Committee, Hord Coplan Macht, Councilman Robert Stokes and Chesapeake Bay Trust.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project!
