Post-Demo Revitalization for the Gay Street Community
Through Project C.O.R.E. Parks & People and partners tore down four long-abandoned vacant properties. In their place, we created an inviting usable entranceway for this future park. After removing the blighted properties, we broke ground in January 2022 and have since removed invasive species and trash, laid fresh sod, and added new trees. We also installed a beautiful gravel pathway, a new bright sign, and safety fencing.
We have been actively working with our community partners on a master plan vision for Phase Il, which will revitalize the old city park, first installed in the era of "urban renewal." Improvements include improved lighting, landscaping, and a variety of areas for multi-generational active and passive recreation.
