Community-driven transformation at Mighty Park
The Stafford Street "Mighty Park" project is a prime example of a community-driven effort to transform a blighted space into a green community asset. Originally introduced to us by one of our community partners, Play 4 All, and the Gwynn Falls Community members, we were amazed as these groups came together and launched a GoFundMe campaign to purchase the 6 vacant lots of land from the City upon which the future park would be located. In only a couple of months, they exceeded their goal of $60,000.00, and Parks & People began visioning work for this transformative project. Community members voiced the need for a large playground area, a mural with a performance stage, a community garden area, and surrounding fencing. We interpreted their requests into a design concept and are now currently in the implementation stages. This new park playground is set to be completed by the end of spring 2025. Mighty Park will serve as a vibrant community space for around 853 Gwynn Falls residents within a 10-minute walk of the park.

Progress
Mighty Park will engage neighbors with programs, safe play spaces, and performances. The park will be a safe and free gathering space for families. Phase 1 was finished in 2023 with seeding and raised garden beds. Phase 2, the installation of the playground, will be completed in spring 2025.
