Tench Tilghman Early Learning Play Space
600 N Patterson Park Avenue
Neighborhood: Care
The early learners' area at Tench Tilghman Elementary/Middle School was once an asphalt pad enclosed by a chain-link fence, with no play equipment and only a few struggling weeds. This spot was identified as a prime space for a safe, engaging play area accessible from preschool classrooms.
Recognizing the need, principal Candace Purcell-Nixon and local leaders from the Southeast CDC, funded by a Maryland State Bond Bill awarded to Southeast CDC, initiated the project. Parks & People managed the design and implementation, transforming the area into a vibrant play and garden space for students.
